CENTER PARTNER OFFER SUMMER CAMPS THROUGHOUT MINNESOTA
Minnesota State University, Mankato with educational partner South Central College, and Center members Alexandria Technical College, Anoka Technical College, and Northeast Higher Education District's Itasca Community College and Mesabi Range Community and Technical College are offering engineering summer camps.

As America's supply of engineers and technologists shows decline because of retiring Baby Boomers, the Center continues its focus on encouraging engineering careers for today's youth. Summer camp is a hands-on, up-close, fun look at engineering. From creating simple batteries using lemons to building robots with legos, Center summer camps are intended to inform and involve students.

"For the past three summers Itasca Community College has hosted a one week residential senior high engineering camp and a one week residential junior high engineering camp. Our goal is to stiumate interest by helping students better understand the fun and exciting opportunities engineering provides," says Ron Ulseth, Engineering Faculty, Itasca Community College.

Minnesota State Mankato is hosting a five day camp focusing on engineering and engergy. Projects are intended to be hands-on and with students working in teams. A highlight of the camp will be team building exercises that include a stint on Minnesota State Mankato's ropes course.

CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE HIRES DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS & INDUSTRY OUTREACH

John Ondov recently joined the Minnesota Center for Engineering & Manufacturing Excellence as Director of Business & Industry Outreach.  Ondov will initiate business and industry partnerships based on collaboration with Center institutions.  “Connecting industry and higher education using tangible assets and market-driven projects is a significant step in continuing to grow Minnesota’s competitive edge in a global marketplace,” he comments.  “I’m looking forward to being a member of this meaningful venture.” The Center establishes cooperative relationships with industry to build models for economic growth and development in today’s rapidly changing, competitive global market.

Ondov comes to the Center with over 25 years of strategic partnership development and implementation in both the public and private sectors. In addition to his duties with the Center, Ondov serves as Director of Regional Development for the Northeast Higher Education District, a member of the Center.   Ondov holds a B.A. from Gustavus Adolphus College and studied at the Public Sector Administrative Institute at Harvard University. 

Minnesota’s Center for Engineering & Manufacturing Excellence is made up of lead university Minnesota State University - Mankato, and Alexandria, Anoka, and Hennepin Technical Colleges, Normandale Community College, South Central College and the Northeast Higher Education District, all members of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities System.
